Yewell Family Vineyards grows 2 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon wine grapes in St. Helena California, in the Napa Valley. These vines were planted in 2001, and have produced wonderful fruit.
Dave and Nancy Yewell are the proprietors of the vineyard. We were lucky enough to find it on a rainy day in March of 1998 with our great realtor, Greta Erikson. It was owned by a remarkable man, Mr. William Manker, who passed away at 95 in 1997. Remarkable in many ways, he moved to Napa Valley when he was 70 and planted the 900 vines. We bought the property in May of 1998. This included a full complement of furniture, place settings, pots & pans, a stocked wine cellar with real treasures, and 700 (not a typo) not so healthy vines.
With the help and advice of many people, including Kevin Corley and our vineyard manager, Sam Turner, we replanted our vineyard in the spring of 2001 with 2300 bench grafted Clone 337 Cabernet Sauvignon on 101-14 rootstock. It is now beautifully managed by Mark Oberschulte at T&M.
We have been also lucky enough to have inherited a great customer from Mr. Manker: the Corley Family, proprietors of Monticello Vineyards. They have worked with us in a much closer relationship than “buyer” and “seller,” we operate in very close communication in order to achieve our shared goal:
grow great fruit to make great wine.
